It wasn't until the early 1990's that the first memory foam mattresses were introduced into the mainstream marketplace. Not many could afford them then though as they were very pricey. As their popularity grew though and other manufacturese were able to figure out the process and make competing products the price came down.
This is not the end of the story on memory foam mattresses though. Memory foam has an entire line of all kinds of separate products that help to make life a lot more comfortable. Items such as pillows, and mattress toppers, to items for your children like inserts in child car seats, and strollers, to office furniture, and pistol gloves to help with the problem of carpal tunnel.
Like most things you get what you pay for and this is no exception as you can expect to spend anywhere between $300 and $4000 for a memory foam bed. This depends on the density that you wish to buy. The thicker they are, the more expensive it is.
For most individuals a budget fitting weight is around 3 to 5.5 pounds.

Some manufacturers use a method of liquid foam and others use a vacuum injection into the foam, which makes you conclude that they are not made to rely on gravity for a consistent density in the foam. Take this information with you when you are shopping for mattresses and make sure of the type of foam that them mattress has that the salesperson is pushing.
A lot of people say that the memory foam mattress is out of this world given that this was first designed for use by astronauts. Given that it is used in almost every type of furniture these days, you can now say that it has taken the world by storm.
